Erkelenz, Germany

Erkelenz is actually a city in the Rhineland on the western edge of Germany that lies about 15 kilometers west of Mönchengladbach in the Cologne Basin, halfway between the lower Rhine River and the lower Meuse. It is, at present, a fairly small city and, of course, the largest town in the district of Heimburg in North Rhine Westphalia. There are many beautiful places to see in this city, and it is home to a number of world-famous buildings including the Brandenburg Gate, which is Europe's largest and most important gate, as well as the majestic old town of Essen. This city has a very rich cultural heritage, and in fact, some of the most important museums in Germany, such as the Cologne Cathedral, the Rheinhessen and Brandenberg Cathedrals, as well as the Staatliches Museum. These institutions are all worth visiting, and the city of Erkelenz is quite popular with tourists.

The Brandenburg Gate is perhaps the most important historic landmark in this area. It's also one of Germany's most visited tourist attractions. It's the main entrance for the city of Erkelenz and can be reached by public transportation or even foot. If you are visiting the city for the first time, you will be able to easily get to the city center from the top of one of its famous hilltop mountains, which is the Rheinhessen, or Mount Rittenhouse. The town of Erkelenz was built up around this mountain during the late Middle Ages and is now one of Germany's oldest cities. Many churches and other buildings are constructed along the slopes of this mountain, and you'll be able to see them from the Brandenburg Gate.

As you may have guessed, the city is located on one of the world's greatest rivers, and it has been so since the ancient times. As such, the Riverside architecture is amazing, as it was created during the time when the city was at its most ancient. The Rhine is part of what is known as the Medieval Wartheland, which was a major river trade route, and it is also the location where the city of Cologne was first established.

Erkelenz was also home to the very first recorded mass media, as early as the 13th century. This would include an early printing press and a large printing press, known as a "Lundischer Prinz". You may also be interested to know that this town is the birthplace of Mozart, who is born and raised in Erkelenz. As mentioned, Erkelenz had originally only been a small settlement, which later became the major city of Cologne, but even then, it was a little bit less developed than it is today. This is one of those cities that has changed a lot since its beginnings. Nowadays, there are large skyscrapers and a huge central market square, and the old, narrow streets are replaced by wide boulevards and modern boulevards lined with shops. As mentioned, the area around Erkelenz was, in the middle ages, a major shipping route, and the river was also used extensively by sailors and merchants.
