Lippstadt (which is a misspelling of the German verb "litterad," which means to litter) is a city in North Rhine- Westphalia, Germany. It's the third largest city in the region of Soest, which includes Cologne. It's a short commute to Cologne by train and many families and couples choose to go there in a bus tour or taxi.

Lippstadt, or Little Lippstadt as it's also known, is located about 60 miles from Cologne. The nearest train station is Heidelberg am Rhein-Zeit-Hagen, so a train ride is definitely possible. The only public transportation available to and from the city is a bus service that leaves every fifteen minutes throughout the day. It's not difficult to get to Lippstadt because the train station is located only an hour from downtown Cologne.

The city of Lippstadt has been called one of the most beautiful places in the world by the famous travel writer, David Barbanell, whose book, The Traveler's Guide to Europe, was based on his experiences traveling through the continent. He named Lippstadt as one of the places in the world where he had the greatest peace of mind. In Barbanell's book he wrote that Lippstadt gave him "a feeling of peace, calmness, contentment, comfort and joy." According to Barbanell, "The town has everything a traveler could want." Barbanell also wrote, "Lippstadt, like many other towns, possesses something unique about it, the beauty of its streets, the quaintness of its architecture, the charm of its people."

Today, Lippstadt, with its historic buildings and beautiful gardens, is home to many international art museums. The city's most famous museum, the Museum of Medieval Art, is home to some of Europe's oldest and most magnificent masterpieces. Another famous art museum is the Kunsthalle in Lippstadt, which was the venue for the first modern musical performance, Die Schloss Lippenkonferenz. Many international stars and musicians have made pilgrimages to Lippstadt to participate in concerts, such as Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen and Queen. In fact, Lippstadt became the concert venue for the European Music Awards in 2004, honoring the best of music of the previous year. Other famous musicians who have played there include John Lennon, Rod Stewart, The Who and Paul McCartney. Recently, the opera L'Aiglon by J. Minkowitz, was performed in Lippstadt.

Lippstadt also is famous for its beer. Its oldest breweries still produce a wide variety of beer including traditional German lagers and English ales. Beer is consumed at bars and restaurants throughout the city and visitors can taste the brews at pubs and hotels. The city also has an authentic beer festival which features live entertainment. It is considered a great way to spend the evening.

Lippstadt has a rich culture that includes many theaters and museums, including the famous Lippstadt Museum of Modern Art and the Lippstadt Museum. In addition to this, the city has a history of art, music and theater. The city also is home to the Deutsches Haus, a Gothic castle.
