Geesthacht is a town in the municipality of Schleswig - Holstein in the district of Schleswig-Kasten- Lauenburg, in the district of Schleswig in the province of Schleswig- Holstein, north of Hamburg, in the state of Schleswig. It is a very well known place and is well connected with the rest of Germany through rail and road, so it is popular with tourists who are coming here for business or pleasure. Geesthacht was founded by Emperor Maximilian and has a population of around two million people.

Geesthacht got its name from the German word "geest", meaning "the sea" or "ocean". Geesthacht was one of the first German cities to be built over an estuary or bordered by the ocean, so it is naturally quite sheltered. This fact has given it a reputation as a haven for tourists and businessmen. Geesthacht has a lot to offer tourists, including some fine historic buildings and a large number of museums, art galleries, and theaters, as well as beautiful gardens and lakes and is also famous for its excellent restaurants.
