The name Erlangen is derived from the Latin phrase 'Ergo Mundi', meaning 'in God's place'. Erlangen is actually a middle Franconian town in Bavaria, northern Germany. It's the seat of the regional administrative area Erlangen-Hohenstadt and with a population of 113,812, it's the fourth largest of all the cities in Bavaria. The total number of residents exceeded the figure of 100,000 back in 1974, making Erlangen an important city.

Erlangen has been the home to many famous authors, artists, politicians, and other personalities. One of these is Mozart, who wrote Requiem for a Dream in Erlangen. Another well-known artist that lived in Erlangen was the legendary conductor, Ludwig van Beethoven. Mozart lived in the district until the 17th century when he moved to Prague. He also wrote much of his most popular music in Erlangen. He lived in the region until the end of his life, when he moved to Paris and then to Paris again, and then finally Vienna.

Mozart's family decided to hold a funeral mass in Erlangen for a full week, so that all of Mozart's friends and admirers could attend. This ensured that there was a full attendance for Mozart's funeral.

Mozart was not the only famous person to live in Erlangen. Mozart was a great composer of music, which would make him well-known throughout the world. For example, Beethoven composed the first ever symphony, as well as the String Quartet No. I, which was played on the piano at the Vienna Philharmonic Concert on Vienna's Saint Peter's Square on July 4th, 1819.

Ludwig Van Beethoven is another great composer whose works were written in Erlangen. Some famous composers who lived in Erlangen include Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Karlheinz Stockhausen, all of whom also lived in Erlangen at different times in their lives.
