Dominated by the 13th century Godesberg Castle, quiet Bonn Bad Godesberg is a small, unassuming villagelike locale. The town of Bonn dates back to 1020 and is one of Germany's earliest major cities. A few ancient medieval castles remain as part of the town's history as West Germany's capital.

Today, Bonn's main thoroughfare, the main road called the Wartburg is lined with modern high rise apartment buildings and apartments. Several large and well-known restaurants are located here and the town's most popular attraction, the Bonn Bad Godesberg Museum, is housed in a restored castle. A number of restaurants serve Chinese, Indian, Brazilian and Thai cuisine as well as German fare. The main pedestrian street is lined with small boutiques selling local crafts and imported German goods.

At the southern end of the main road is the Bismarck castle, a fortress built during the 14th century that dominates the landscape of Bonn. Its imposing front entrance is open to visitors and it can be reached via the Bonn-Wacht am See shopping center or the Old Town Hall. An excellent view of the castle can also be taken from the Church of St. Nicholas.

In addition to being home to a magnificent castle and museum, Bonn is a popular destination for art lovers. Many famous painters and artists have had works displayed here including Thomas Kinkade and Friederich Heine. The town also boasts a fine art gallery and a large variety of local and foreign art. The Bad Godesberg, a short stroll away, features an elegant shopping complex. Other nearby attractions include a small park and an old-fashioned market place. The Bad Godesberg Museum houses a large collection of German history.

The town of Bonn is also home to a number of popular hotels and inns and a number of cultural attractions. Some of the more popular tourist attractions are: the Bauhaus House, the Bauhaus Museum, the Albertin-Lippe Museum, and the Nationalischer Volksbau Museum. The Lippe, a historic school that is dedicated to art, was founded in 1857 and is currently housing several art galleries and schools.
